Lewis Takes 12th Place at USA Junior Track & Field Championships

EUGENE, ORE. – The Detroit Titan men's track and field team had two representatives in action at Hayward Field this weekend. Freshman thrower Eric Lewis placed 12th in the hammer throw at the 2011 USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships, while assistant coach Brian Richotte also competed in the hammer at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Lewis opened with a throw of 178-9 (54.48m), which turned out to be his best distance of the day. His second toss was not quite as good (165-3 / 50.37m), and his final attempt did not count due to a foul. In total, there were 20 competitors in the hammer throw.

Alec Faldermeyer (UCLA) took top honors with a distance of 241-2 (73.52m). Greg Skipper (Mac Wilkins Throwers Academy) and Jordan Arakawa (Eastern Washington University) rounded out the top three spots.

Richotte ran into a string of bad luck at the 2011 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He fouled on each of his three hammer throw attempts. Richotte's qualifying mark of 228-2 (69.56m) would have landed him in tenth place overall.

Kibwe Johnson (Nike) won the hammer throw event with a distance of 263-6 (80.31m). He reached that distance on his last attempt. Michael Mai (U.S. Army) and Matthew Dibuono (Shore Athletic Club) rounded out the top three spots.

The 2011 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will conclude on Sunday, June 26.
