INDIANAPOLIS -- With their hard work and dedication to their sports and academics, eight Detroit student-athletes were honored today as the Horizon League released its Spring Academic All-League teams.
The HL Spring Academic All-League teams feature a total of 89 student-athletes from the eight spring sports, with student-athlete nominees voted upon by the League's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors.
The Titans had two representatives from both the men's and women's track and field teams and the men's golf team, while the women's tennis and golf squad each received one honoree.
Sophomore
Taylor Hennrick (Traverse City, MI/St. Francis) and junior
Vushaun Landrum (Windsor, ON/Sandwich Secondary) were the selections in men's track as Hennrick holds a 3.79 GPA as a Biology major, while Landrum has tallied a 3.35 majoring in Business Administration. On the women's team, junior
Susan Kalkstein (New Kensington, PA/Burrell) was honored as an English major with a 3.98, while sophomore
Katrina Oberski (Clyde, MI/Port Huron) is a Nursing major with a 3.84.
In men's golf, two senior student-athletes who graduated with a degree in Business Administration were named to the team as
Jeff Clarridge (Barrie, ON/Bear Creek) posted a 3.82 and
Britt Pronk (London, ON/St. Thomas Aquinas) a 3.61.
Women's golf saw senior
Alainna Stefan (Dearborn, MI/Mercy) honored as she graduated in May with a 3.78 GPA in Nursing, while senior
Erin Weldon (Kalamazoo, MI/Mattawan) from the women's tennis team graduated with a 3.77 tally in Business Administration.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
