Edwin Gay Named Horizon League Runner of the Week

Horizon League Release

INDIANAPOLIS – Edwin Gay has been named Horizon League Runner of the Week as announced by the league office for the week beginning Aug. 29. It is the first time Gay has received this honor.

The 2011 men's cross country season got underway this past weekend with the Titans competing in the 2011 Golden Grizzly Open. Gay finished in second place overall, yet he was the first collegiate runner to cross the finish line. 70 runners competed in Friday's meet with participants from host Oakland, IPFW, Schoolcraft, Macomb, Mott CC, and nine unattached athletes.

It was the first time Gay had ever competed at the meet, even though the Titans usually kick off the year in Oakland. He crossed the finish line at 19:09, which serves as his 6k personal record.

Detroit will host the 25th Annual Running Fit Detroit Titan Invite on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Cass-Benton Park. The first race will start at 11:15 a.m.
