NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The women's cross country team finished in 16th place at the 2011 National Catholic Championships. Kirstin Mooney led all Titans with a 56th place finish.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish won the meet with a team score of 22. Jessica Rydberg was the overall winner of the race, and the additional four scoring runners for Notre Dame all placed in the top ten. Dayton separated themselves from the pack with a second place finish (61 Points), while Saint Louis rounded out the top three with 117 points.

Mooney ran well on the 5k course on Friday night leading Detroit with a time of 18:56 (56th place), her new personal-best. The senior has been impressive this year as she once again improved her time from a year ago. In 2010 Mooney ran 19:53 at this same meet.

"Kirstin improved her PR by 35 seconds," Head Coach Guy Murray said.  "This is our first sub-19 since Andrea Karl in 2005..  It was a huge run for Kirstin.  She has worked hard and it is paying off."

Katrina Oberski also set a personal record at Notre Dame with a time of 19:25. Oberski also improved to 94th place this year after taking 113th in 2010.

Olivia Smid, Zeinab Baydoun, and Sarah Martinez completed the top five scoring runners for the Titans. Smid posted a PR today with a time of 19:54 (117th), while Baydoun ran well in her season-debut with a time of 19:59 (120th). Martinez just missed the 20 minute barrier as she crossed the finish line at 20:04.

Torrie Eger and Rachel Hofsess were also in action for UDM. Eger posted a time of 20:56 for 169th place, while Hofsess placed 179th with a time of 21:05.

The Titans will take some time off and return to action on Oct. 1 by competing in the Greater Louisville Classic.
