NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Detroit Titan men's cross country team finished in 16th place by accumulating 444 points on Friday afternoon at the Notre Dame Cross Country Course.

Notre Dame took top honors at the event with a score of 28. The Fighting Irish had all five of their scored runners place in the top ten. Marquette and Dayton rounded out the top three. Marquette finished with 88 points, while Dayton ended the day with 118.

"There won't be many days faster than this one," said Head Coach Guy Murray.  "The course was in good shape, the weather was as good as it gets, and there was a quality field to compete with."

Edwin Gay and Martin Nelkie finished side-by-side for Detroit in a race that saw many improved times from a year ago. The duo each clocked in at 26:04. Official results put Gay in 64th place, and Nelkie in 65th. Both Gay and Nelkie drastically improved their time from the 2010 race as Nelkie posted a time of 26:35 a year ago, and Gay was well behind that at 26:58.

The next Titan to finish was freshman Colin Creagh. Creagh ran well in his National Catholic Championship debut by placing 90th overall with a time of 26:19. Senior Bob Radlich wasn't too far back from Creagh as he took 98th overall with a time of 26:37 (PR).

"We had a very good day overall," Murray added.  "The pack ran like we had hoped they would and the guys pushed each other well."

Sam Felton was the fifth finisher for Detroit as he crossed the line at 26:58 (PR) for 127th place. Rounding out the effort for UDM was senior Matt Mahler (132nd – 27:03) and freshman Ylli Alla (136th – 27:06).

The Titans will take some time off and return to action on Oct. 1 by competing in the Greater Louisville Classic.
