Final Results
HILLSDALE, Mich. -- The Detroit Titan men's cross country team placed 12
th overall at the 2011 Michigan Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships. Detroit ended the meet with 365 points.
Hillsdale ran well at their home course and ended up winning the meet with a score of 43. The results were close as Grand Valley State landed in second place with 44 points. Wayne State rounded out the top three with a score of 80.
Joe Graves was the individual winner. He led all Grand Valley State runners with a time of 26:08. Secor Jacob paced Hillsdale with a second place effort. He crossed the finish line at 26:14.
Two freshmen led Detroit on Friday afternoon at Hayden Park.
Ryan Hofsess was the top Titan with a time of 27:55. He finished 58
th overall.
Ylli Alla was the next Titan to cross the finish line. Alla clocked in at 28:27 to land in 79
th place.
Matt Mahler and
Sam Felton ran at a similar pace as they finished 93
rd and 99
th respectively. Mahler ended the 8k race in 28:54, while Felton crossed the finish line at 29:09.
Junior
Chris Smalley rounded out the scoring effort for the Titans. Smalley placed 117
th overall with a time of 29:54.
Detroit will return to action next weekend by competing in the Vic Matthews Open which is hosted by the University of Guelph.
