HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Detroit Titan women's cross country team placed 12
th at the 2011 Michigan Intercollegiate Championships on Friday.
Zeinab Baydoun led the team with a time of 20:09.
Michigan State ended the meet in first place with a score of 48. Western Michigan placed second (75), while Saginaw Valley State rounded out the top three with a score of 112. The Titans earned 12
th place with a score of 359.
Amanda Putt of Hillsdale was the overall winner of the women's race. She finished in 18:10. Two student-athletes from Calvin were next in line as Jodi Hoesktra and Alyssa Penning finished in second and third respectively.
Baydoun led Detroit for the second straight week as she placed 55
th overall at Hillsdale.
Katrina Oberski ran one of her best races of the year as she placed 64
th overall with a time of 20:13.
Olivia Smid was the next Titan to cross the finish line. Smid ran the 5k course in 20:59 for 94
th place.
Kirstin Mooney and
Sarah Martinez ran in a pack as the duo placed 101
st and 103
rd respectively. Mooney clocked in at 21:10, while Martinez was close behind at 21:12.
Torrie Eger and
Sara Taylor rounded out the day for Detroit. Eger finished 120
th overall with a time of 21:49. Taylor placed 150
th crossing the finish line at 23:11.
Detroit will return to action next weekend by competing in the Vic Matthews Open which is hosted by the University of Guelph.
