Indoor Schedule

Outdoor Schedule

DETROIT -- Both the men's and women's track and field schedules have been announced by the Director of Track and Field, Guy Murray.  The first indoor meet of the season will be the Blue and Gold Invitational on Dec. 2, while the first outdoor event will take place on March 30th when the Titans compete in the Raleigh Relays.

“We are looking forward to the upcoming season,” Head Coach Guy Murray explained.  “We will try to build off our success from 2011.”

The 2011-12 indoor track and field schedule is the same for both the men's and the women's teams.  After the Blue and Gold Invite, the Titans will continue with three meets during the month of January.

The Central Michigan Invitational will be held on Jan. 13 followed by the Simmons-Harvey Invitational on Jan. 21.  Rounding out the month of January will be the IPFW Quadrangular on Jan. 28.

One of the biggest meets on the indoor schedule appears near the beginning of February as Detroit will travel to Youngstown to compete in the YSU National Invitational.  YSU will host Detroit, VMI, Bucknell, Oakland, and Duquesne at the meet.

“I'm looking forward to the YSU National Invite,” Murray said.  “It really fills in a hole in our past schedule with a very good, competitive meet.  It gives us a good pre-Horizon League run at the facility and it keeps the rivalry with YSU moving.”

Detroit will split the teams up over the weekend of Feb. 11 as some athletes will compete in the GVSU Big Meet while others will be at the Windsor Team Challenge.  The final tune-up before the league championship will be at the Silverston Invitational on Feb. 18.

This year's 2011 Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championship Meet will run from Feb. 25-26.  Youngstown will once again host the meet.

Detroit will compete in the Alex Wilson Invitational the following weekend (March 2-3) and the 2011 NCAA Division I Championships will end the indoor season (March 9-10).

The Titans will take a trip to North Carolina to get the outdoor season underway.  Some athletes will compete in the Raleigh Relays on March 30-31, while other will stay back to compete in the Toledo Collegiate Challenge.

Detroit's lone home meet of the year is set for April 7.  The date is fitting as 2012 marks the 7th Annual Dual Meet vs. Oakland.  Detroit will host the meet for the fifth time.  Action will get underway at 3:00 p.m.

Detroit has two meets on the schedule the weekend following the dual.  Some athletes will compete in the Bison Outdoor Classic from April 14-15, while those not making the trip to Lewisburg will compete in the Don Kleinow Memorial Invite on April 14.

The EMU Twilight will be held from April 20-21, and the following weekend is another split squad as Detroit will have some athletes at the Drake Relays, while others compete in the Hillsdale Relays (April 26-28).

The 2012 Outdoor Track and Field Horizon League Championships will be held from May 4-6.  UIC will host the event at Lewis University.

The final weeks of the outdoor schedule will have the Titans competing at the 2012 NCAA Division I Championship – Preliminary Round from May 24-26, followed by the NCAA Championships from June 6-9.

“The outdoor season features a more traditional schedule,” Murray explained.  “We will need to get an event win at Bucknell to pick up on our streak of having a winner there.  We narrowly missed out during our last trip in 2010 (Brittany Horne runner-up).  We also hope to finally establish that Shuttle Hurdle record at Drake.”
