Notable: As usual, Shwayder saved her best for last, finishing a career-best fourth at the Division 1 state finals in her fourth appearance at the race, helping the Hornets to a state runner-up finish as a team. That followed her third consecutive individual regional title and a win in the third SEC Jamboree.
Hornets coach Mike Smith said her training prepared her to run her best at the end of the season, but there’s more to it than just that. “There’s money runners just like there’s money basketball players,” Smith said. “Especially the last couple of years when we’ve needed her the most she’s been at her peak.”
