James Gedris Runs US No. 6 Time On Route To Watermelon Win

James Gedris recorded an outstanding time of 15:16.70 to win the recent Watermelon Run, which was hosted by Trenton.  This result represents a Michigan No. 1, a US No. 6 and a new pr for the senior.

Gedris ran away from a strong field and ended up crossing the line with a comfortable twenty-six second victory.  Judging by his exceptional start to the campaign, the Grosse Ile athlete appears poised to have a big season.  Gedris has competed at the MHSAA State Championship (LP-2) the past three years and he's a veteran of elite competitions such as the Nike Cross Nationals Midwest Regional and the Foot Locker Midwest Regional.

MileSplit reached James to gain further insight on his performance, as well as to learn what his training has resembled and what goals he has established for himself.

"As far as the Watermelon Run goes, I'd say that I felt very good.  I knew the course was fast, so I wanted to strive for an early season sub 15 minute time.  I was on pace at 2 miles (which I came through in 9:41), but I slowed down a little too much during the last mile."

"This season, my goals are to run sub 15 minutes, win State's and to qualify for Nike Cross Nationals and Foot Locker Nationals.  I also want to help get my team to the State Championship meet for the fourth consecutive year."

"In lead-up to the season, my training consisted of approximately 80 miles per week with a time trial on Tuesday's and a tempo run on Friday's.  I felt very good throughout my summer training and I think I'm ready to run some fast times."
