As April comes to a close and the competition heats up, few athletes' win streaks remain intact, while personal and seasonal bests continue to bump up athletes' rankings. Check out these standout performances from last week.
Boys
Sophomore De-Mani Roberts of East Kentwood is your current leader over 200m. At the East Kentwood at Rockford meet, Roberts crossed the line first in 21.34. Roberts is the only Michigan athlete this year to dip under 21.50 in the 200m.
In the 400m, Rondre Austion is the only Michigan athlete to have run sub 48. The senior from Oak Park won the OAA-Gold Meet with a season's best of 47.87.
Jackson Lam crossed the line first in the boys' 1600m at the Don Lukens Invitational, a lifetime best. The senior from Kalamazoo Loy Norrix now holds the #1 mark in Michigan.
At the CAAC Red: Williamston @ Eastern meet, Tommy Pratt of Williamston won the boys' long jump. With a mark of 23-1, the senior sprung to a new lifetime best and a #2 ranking in the state so far.
Currently ranked #2 in the state for 300m hurdles and #1 in the 100m hurdles, Shukuru Makechi is undefeated in both hurdle events. At the Grand Ledge Comet Classic, by Playmakers Meet, the junior from East Kentwood ran a lifetime 300m hurdles best of 38.02 to take the victory.
Girls
Ludington's star miler, Eliza Schwass, took the victory in the 1600m at the Barnyard Invitational and Elite Mile Showcase. The freshman clocked a 4:40.34 to secure the win and the top time in the in state.
Stevensville-Lakeshores Leigha Whitman has gotten better each time she's stepped on the runway and has not lost yet in the long jump. At the Don Lukens Invitational, the junior recorded a season's best 18-9 to take the state lead under her name.
Also on the runway last weekend was Katherine Blue, the standout pole vaulter from Grand Ledge. The senior set a personal best of 13-6 at the Grand Ledge Comet Classic, by Playmakers, is undefeated this season, and sits at #1 in the girls' pole vault.
Annie Saenz, the 2026 MITS/MITCA Indoor TF State Championships bronze medalist high jumper, opened up her outdoor season at the Big 8 HS- Concord & Quincy @ Springport meet. The sophomore from Concord cleared a new lifetime best of 5-6, and currently ranks 2nd in the event for Michigan.
At the DDC 'Friendly' meet, Aubrey Wilson of Dearborn Divine Child won both the 100m and 200m while finishing 3rd in the long jump. The junior set a new PR in the 100m with a 11.52 and a new season's best in the 200, later returning for a 17-0 jump. Wilson State ranks are #2 in both sprinting events and #3 in the long jump.
