Michigan High School Track & Field: Mid-May Highlights

Check out some of the top performances in Michigan from this past week. These athletes continue to improve as the state meet quickly approaches.

Boys

At the MHSAA LP Region 07-1 @ Grosse Pointe South, sophomore Vernell Lee took the tilt in the boys' 100m dash in a lifetime best. From Detroit Martin Luther King Jr., Lee broke the tape in 10.65, and is currently ranked #2 in his class and #9 in the state.

In the 110m and 300m hurdles, Nolan Schaap of Kalamazoo Christian won both events at the MHSAA LP Region 24-3 @ Bangor. The junior clocked a 39.88 in the 300m hurdles and a new personal best of 14.67 in the short hurdles.

Mason Darke of Muskegon Reeths-Puffer claimed the 300m hurdles title at the MHSAA LP Region 02-1 @ Zeeland East. The senior ran a season's best of 38.35 and currently ranks #4 in the state.

Around the track at the MHSAA LP Region 02-1 @ Zeeland East, Caden Livermore also set a new season's best, winning the boys' 800m. The junior from Grandville ran 1:54.40, improving to #10 in the state.

Tyler Woodside of Reed City won the boys discus at the Last Chance Meet. The senior from Reed City won his 10th meet in a row, throwing a personal best of 177-7, and improved to #4 in Michigan.

Girls

At the Napoleon Pre-Regional, Julia Hughes of Ida won her 13th consecutive 100m hurdle race in a new personal best. The senior improved to another win, clocked an impressive 14.60, and ranks #7 in the state of Michigan.

Caylin Ivy took runner-up in the 200m and 400m dash at the MHSAA LP Region 07-1 @ Grosse Pointe South. The junior from Detroit Cass Tech ran 25.02 in the half-lap, later returning to run a season's best 55.69 in the 1-lap race. Ivy ranks #7 in the state in the over 400m.

At the MHSAA LP Regional 02-1 @ Zeeland East, junior Collette Wierks won the girls 800m in a PR of 2:11.31. From Holland West Ottawa, she now sits in the top 4 for Michigan 800m runners.

In the throwing ring at the MHSAA LP Regional 02-1 @ Zeeland East, Elizabeth Watkins secured 1st place in the discus and 2nd in the shot put. The junior from Holland West Ottawa recorded a new lifetime best 133-4 in the discus, followed by a season's best 38-9.75 to take in the shot.

Senior Ereni Polhamus of Comstock continued her win streak in the high jump at the MHSAA LP Region 24-3 @ Bangor. Polhamus cleared 5-5 to improve her win streak to 8 and sits at #4 in the state.
