Grand Valley State head cross country and track and field coach Jerry Baltes has announced his second hiring in a week, as GVSU alum Nick Polk has been added to the Laker coaching staff. For the first time since 2007, the Grand Valley State men's track and field team has captured the GLIAC Outdoor Championship, garnering 187.5 points to win the seventh conference outdoor crown in school history. Junior Ryan Toth set a meet record in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:19.31 while Logan Hoffman was named men's freshman running athlete of the year for the conference. Grand Valley State men's track and field team competed at three track and field meets this weekend (April 14-16). The Lakers raced in day two of the Mt. Grand Valley State women's track and field team competed at the Miami (OH) Invitational on Saturday (April 9) evening. The Lakers finished seventh with a team total of 48.5 points, while Liz Murphy set a new school record and automatically qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the hammer. Grand Valley State's Jerry Baltes was name the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Women's Head Coach of the Year on Thursday (March 17). The head coach has helped the women's track and field team claim the programs first NCAA Division II National Indoor Track & Field title last Saturday (March 12) in Albuquerque, N.M. The Lakers recorded a team score of 83 points at the national meet and brought home three individual titles.

GVSU Men Capture 2009 GLIAC Cross Country Championship Oct 24, 2009

Grand Valley State won its eighth straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship Saturday afternoon (Oct. 24) in Linwood, Mich. The Laker men recorded a team score of 21, while GVSU sophomore Tyler Emmorey took home the first place crown. Saginaw Valley Sate placed second with 53 points, followed by Hillsdale (90), Wayne State (117) and Ferris State (153). GVSU will now prepare for the 2009 NCAA DII Midwest Regional on Saturday (Nov. 7) in Kenosha, Wis. at 12:00 p.m.

GVSU Women Claim 2009 GLIAC Cross Country Championship Oct 24, 2009

Grand Valley State continued it dominance in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference by claiming its ninth straight GLIAC Women's Cross Country Championship on Saturday (Oct. 24) afternoon in Linwood, Mich. The Laker women recorded a team score of 20 points, outdistancing second place Ferris State by 47 points. Hillsdale placed third with 85, followed by Ashland (112), and Findlay with 161. GVSU will now begin preparations for the NCAA DII Midwest Regional on Saturday (Nov. 7), in Kenosha, Wis. at 12:00 p.m.

Cross Country Set for GLIAC Championships Oct 22, 2009

The Grand Valley State men's and women's cross country teams are heading into the GLIAC Cross Country Championships looking to continue their respective streaks. The men have won seven consecutive conference titles, while the women have won eight.
