Willets won four out of nine races he entered this year and finished as runner-up in another three. His wins included at two of the three SEC Jamborees and at regionals, where he took his second consecutive regional title. His best time of the year came at the Portage Invitational, where he ran the course in 15:43 and finished second in a field of 245.
