University of Texas freshmen Kendall Baisden, a former high school track from the state of Michigan, looked the part as the pre-meet favorite and gold medal contender in the 400 meter dash as she dominated her first round qualifying race with a 53.28 clocking in the rain.
A relatively unknown runner nationally one year ago while winning state titles in his senior year of high school back home in Ohio, Eastern Michigan University freshmen Tyler Brown is now in position to compete for a medal and potentially gold on the World stage at the World Junior Championships in the 400 meter dash. The second fastest qualifier coming in the meet, Brown opened up his weekend winning his prelim heat by withstanding a late challenge from Great Britain's Jack Crosby for a 46.45 victory to move onto the next round.
After a remarkable junior year with major wins at Foot Locker Nationals, New Balance Nationals indoor mile, adidas Dream Mile, and Brooks PR two mile, Grand Blanc High School (MI) rising senior Grant Fisher had his season unfortunately come to an end in a tough race and field in his preliminary heat of the 1500 meter run at the IAAF World Junior Championships (9th in his heat with time of 3:49). Fisher is ready to learn from the World Junior race for the next time he competes at the international level and build towards an even more successful high school senior year of races.
Effective with the 2015 high school track and field season, the prohibition of jewelry will be eliminated. This was one of several rules changes recommended by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Track and Field Rules Committee at its June 16-18 meeting in Indianapolis. The committee’s recommendations were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.
