3. Karenna Duffey, 1600m, US #3 4:54.75
Duffey was the big surprise of the MITS Championships, cruising into the line in the 1600m with the lead firmly in hand and a new PR in the books. That new PR really seemed to come out of nowhere, too, considering she only had one more race on record over the 2017 season at the Saginaw Valley State University Meet, where she ran 5:00.55 in the 1-mile. Last outdoor season, Duffey's best was at 5:16.98. But on Sunday, she played the race to perfection, slow-playing her position up until the final lap, where she and Midland Dow's Anna Jensen kicked in the final 200 meters. It was Duffey who had the best jets, though, and she gleamed into the line with a new PR and a meet record.
