Oak Park Women Claim Division 1 State Title

It was no surprise that the Oak Park High School girls won the Division 1 state title on Saturday at East Kentwood High School. Cinching the OAA Gold Conference Championships and the Region 6 Qualifying Meet title, the girls headed into State Finals with the number one seed. They capped off the day with 66 points, 6.5 points ahead of Rockford, and 14 points ahead of East Kentwood. Along with their incredible season statistics, Oak Park knew they were walking into the stadium on Saturday expecting redemption after taking second place to Ann Arbor Pioneer by a mere 4 points in 2017.

The girls kicked off the day with a 4x800m relay title, but when a fluke injury took out their anchor leg of the 4x200m, they were not able to finish the relay they were predicted to win. A quick adjustment to the 4x100m relay earned them the runner up title and they finished the day on top with a 4x400m title as well. Oak Park also claimed individual titles on the girls side in the 400m dash and 200m dash, as well as runner-up in the 100m hurdles and a 3rd place finish in the 800m run.
