In the girls 400m hurdles, Dalilah Muhammad (Benjamin Cardoza, NY) bested Elizabeth Mott (New Rochelle, NY) over the final hurdle to beat Mott with a new U.S. #1 time of 57.81. Speed was the name of the game at the Midwest Meet of Champions Saturday in Michigan. Seniors from Indiana, Ohio and Michigan gathered in the attempts to earn regional bragging rights. While many events put up great results, none showed more talent than the 400m dash, where Ohio shined the brightest. On the girls side, Ohio took home 1st and 4th place finishes with speedster Meshawn Graham going sub 54 seconds once again, while the boys swept the top three places with John Gaugenti going sub 47 seconds to lead the way. Seniors from Indiana, Ohio and Michigan converge on Jackson H.S. (MI) Saturday to take part in the Midwest Meet of Champions. Many of the top senior athletes in each state will test their skills against their cross-state rivals in a match-up for regional bragging rights. The prime event of the entire weekend is the boys shot put. With six athletes over 62 feet, this event is deep and extremely talented. The Midwest Meet of Champions brings together the best senior athletes from Ohio, Michigan and Indiana for a one day, top notch track meet. This year the meet will again be held at Jackson High School in Jackson. Michigan on Saturday, June 14th. Events will start with the women's pole vault at noon. Rosters are current as of Wednesday morning. Although the staff makes every effort to have firm event assignments, it must be recognized that this can become fluid due to late roster additions or scratches. All athletes listed, however, have a confirmed roster slot and will travel to Michigan and compete with Team Ohio. Selections were based on performance from a pool of athletes who 'declared' by filling out an information card at the Midwest Meet of Champions tent during the state meet.
