Zeeland West finished fourth at last year's Division 2 State Championship behind three third place relays. Dearborn Divine Child has been the team to beat since 2010 with three state championships (including the last two) and a runner-up in 2011. It appears the Falcons have not missed a beat coming into the 2014 season.
The rest of the Men's Top Five are an un-expected group with Byron Center sitting tied with Croswell-Lexington for second place, Mason ranking fourth, and St. Joseph rounding-out the top five.
Zeeland West (95.75) has points from all-over the track to secure their clear number one spot. Danny Bauder is currently ranked first in the 100 after finishing sixth at last year's state finals. The senior also ranks third in the 200. Junior Sam Plaska is the number five ranked 800 runner along with his teammate, Grant Postma, who ranks 15th. The Dux continue to accumulate points with hurdler, Jason Tran; ranked third in both the 110 and 300 Hurdles. Trent Kujawa and Jordan Vandort score in the throws to complete the all-around team effort.

A tie at second place between Byron Center and Croswell-Lexington (67.00) shows a great amount of depth in the team rankings. Byron Center scores highly in the couple events they fielded. Al Lake is fifth in the Discus and fourth in the Shot Put. Erik Chard is the number seven runner in the 100 dash and John Sattler, fresh off a fantastic indoor season where he placed third in the MITS State Championship 1600, finds himself ranked second in the 1600 and fourth in the 3200 to round-out Byron Center's scoring. Croswell-Lexington scores their points in a nearly identical fashion. Senior hurdler, Joey Seghi, ranks fourth in the 110 and fifth in the 300 Hurdles. Andrew O'Connor (sister to new Big Ten Championship Meet Record Holder, Leah O'Connor) ranks first in the 800 after finishing second at last year's state finals, while also ranking fourth in the 1600. O'Connor's teammate, Trevor Wilezynski, also ranks in the top ten (9th) for the 800.
Mason (54.75) is led by senior Nathan Jones' points in the 400 (15th) and 800 (2nd). Jones finished third at last year's state meet behind Andrew O'Connor in the 800. Derek Troxell is ranked just behind his teammate, Nick Carl, in the 110 Hurdles (10th and 11th respectively). Troxell also ranks in the 300 Hurdles (7th). Stone Miller chuckes the disc far enough to rank ninth in the Discus at just a junior. St. Joseph (52.00) is loaded with distance pieces as they score one in the 800 (Charlie Felton), three in the 1600 (Felton, Stephen Pfahler, Skyler Arthur), and another one (Erik Edwards) in the 3200. St. Joseph also has a pair of top-20 Pole Vaulters in Jamin Arthur and Chris Smiy.
Defending state champ, Chelsea, finds themselves in seventeenth place initially as they will do their best to replace stud-sprinter, Berkley Edwards.
Dearborn Divine Child (97.75) picks their points up with just six different girls! Although that will likely change, especially if the Falcons expect to keep their number one spot into the season, for now it is enough to secure them almost a 20 point Pre-Season lead. Liz Mullen is the first scorer for DDC rankings sixth in the 400. Ellayna Iaquaniello ranks sixteenth in the 800 headed into the season. Senior Lindsey Brewis ranks high in both the 1600 (5th) and 3200 (2nd). The star-power continues with junior Kayla Gandy, runner-up last year in the 100 Hurdles and this year ranked first in Division 2 and fifth in the entire state. Gandy also ranks fifth in the 300 Hurdles. Rachel O'Neill will look to try and replace her sister (Ashley O'Neill) in both throws ranking 17th in the Discus and 6th in the Shot Put. Young-gun, Shannon Rice, rounds out the scoring for DDC by placing sixth in Long Jump as just a sophomore.

Megan O'Neil helps lead Remus Chippewa Hills (79.25) to a second place Pre-Season ranking. The senior ranks first in the 800, first in the 1600, and eighth in the 3200. Arielle Esch (100 Hurdles) and Riley Reyes (300 Hurdles) score points in the hurlde events. The Warriors continue to the field where junior, Emonee Anderson, ranks fifth in the Long Jump and senior Erin Drouillard is tied for second in the Pole Vault. Spring Lake (73.00) is led by vaulter, Allie Leroux, who currently sits number one returning vaulters for Division 2. Carlyn Arteaga looks to be one of the best middle-distance runners in the division, ranking in the top 20 in the 200 (16th), 400 (2nd), and 800 (2nd). Erin O'Keefe appears to be a stud-sophomore ranking 20th in the 1600 and 17th in the 3200.
The Mason women (64.00) get most of their points from one individual (Meg Darmofal) who scores in the 800 (8th), 1600 (4th), and 3200 (1st). Darmofal has the number one 3200 time by almost 20 seconds and is the only Division 2 girl currently under the 11 minute barrier. Another Bulldog junior, Rachel Johnson, is ranked 10th in the Shot Put and 9th in the Discus. Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern (63.50) has a sensational sophomore of their own in Camron Nelson. Nelson has the keys to the team (despite likely not being old enough to drive) as she currently ranks 18th in Long Jump, 2nd in the 100, and 4th in the 200. Mary Kostielney is ranked 11th in the 800 and even better in the 1600 (3rd) to contribute to the Hawks score.
The ninth place team of Karrigan Smith, I mean St. Johns, has all of their points coming from the speedy junior. Smith ranks third in the 800, second in the 1600, and third in the 3200 technically qualifying her as the number one Division 2 distance runner. Adding up her places, Smith has 8 points, while Megan O'Neil (despite two first places) adds up to 10.
