Grand Valley State University hosted the fourth Gazelle Sports Elite Series indoor track meet. Gazelle Sports and New Balance have teamed up to put on meets during the indoor season. Gazelle has tents set-up with running gear and shoes for sale, fun corn-hole games as well as New Balance performance shirts for all the event winners and winning relay teams.
GIRLS RECAP
Sophomore Keyanna Otey won the girls 60m dash with a time of 7.81 and ran 7.79 in the prelims to rank her 7th in the state. Junior Aiden Harrand, a junior at Buckley high school, had an impressive double winning the 1600m with a state leading time of 4:58.31 and coming back with the second best 800m time for the year in Michigan with a 2:15.06. Maya Rollins won the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.25 and anchored the winning 4x200m team. The Purple TC quartet of Sylvia Sanok Dufallo, Emily Cooper, Rachel Forsyth and Rollins leaned out the victory over the Shore TC team of Allinna Teau, Llene Garcia, Eva Whiteman, and Madalyn Daniels 1:50.49 to 1:50.79 which rank them both in the top ten of the state. For the first time at a GVSU MITS meet, the Sprint Medley Relay (400-200-200-800) was run. The winning team from West Michigan Harriers was: Lucy Cusack, Elle Sharpe, Lindsay Lauria, Emily Tomes ran 4:18.76 which ranks them in second in the state so far this season.
In the field events, a pair of Rockford high school athletes received first place Gazelle Sports winners t-shirt. Greta Caprathe Buczek won the high jump with 5'4" and Maya Anderson won the long jump with a leap of 18'0.5" into the sand. Forest Hills Central junior Brooke Bowers had a State leading jump of 12'6" in the pole vault.
