Recapping Grand Valley State MITS Meet #4


Grand Valley State University hosted the fourth Gazelle Sports Elite Series indoor track meet.  Gazelle Sports and New Balance have teamed up to put on meets during the indoor season. Gazelle has tents set-up with running gear and shoes for sale, fun corn-hole games as well as New Balance performance shirts for all the event winners and winning relay teams.



GIRLS RECAP

Sophomore Keyanna Otey won the girls 60m dash with a time of 7.81 and ran 7.79 in the prelims to rank her 7th in the state.  Junior Aiden Harrand, a junior at Buckley high school, had an impressive double winning the 1600m with a state leading time of 4:58.31 and coming back with the second best 800m time for the year in Michigan with a 2:15.06.  Maya Rollins won the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.25 and anchored the winning 4x200m team.  The Purple TC quartet of Sylvia Sanok Dufallo, Emily Cooper, Rachel Forsyth and Rollins leaned out the victory over the Shore TC team of Allinna Teau, Llene Garcia, Eva Whiteman, and Madalyn Daniels 1:50.49 to 1:50.79 which rank them both in the top ten of the state.  For the first time at a GVSU MITS meet, the Sprint Medley Relay (400-200-200-800) was run.  The winning team from West Michigan Harriers was: Lucy Cusack, Elle Sharpe, Lindsay Lauria, Emily Tomes ran 4:18.76 which ranks them in second in the state so far this season.

In the field events, a pair of Rockford high school athletes received first place Gazelle Sports winners t-shirt.  Greta Caprathe Buczek won the high jump with 5'4" and Maya Anderson won the long jump with a leap of 18'0.5" into the sand.  Forest Hills Central junior Brooke Bowers had a State leading jump of 12'6" in the pole vault.


BOYS RECAP


Six foot one, 247 pound Kellen Kimes threw at 25lb indoor weight 72'11.25" Saturday at GVSU MITS #4.  The Liberty University commit was not done throwing things as he tossed the 12lb shot put 56'2.25".  Kimes was first in the WT and second to Andrew Berryhill who threw 58'7".  Kellen's WT throw has him ranked him #4 in the US.  That is two large men throwing heavy things a long way!  In the pole vault, Saline high school senior Dolan Gonzales jumped 15'3" to lead the state this season.  


On the blazing blue track, Keiton Fase of Grand Rapids Fire ran 6.99 in the final to rank him in the top 10 of the state this season.  Northville high school senior Brandon Latta won the 400m with a time of 50.31  The 800m run saw the first four finishers all break two minutes:
1) Price, Noah Unattached 1:57.79 
2) Latta, Brandon Unattached 1:58.41 
3) Westerkamp, Owen Unattached 1:59.40 
4) Patton, Owen Unattached 1:59.61 

There was a tight finish in the boys 60m hurdles race with Liam Richards (8.43) beating Trevor Watts (8.48) at the line for the t-shirt.  Both hurdle times rank them in the top ten in Michigan so far this year.

In the Sprint Medley Relay (400-200-200-800) the team from Alma Track Club, Coach by former 4:17 miler, Gene Lebron, won the race with the second best time in the state this year, 3:48.21.  The Alma team included: Bodie Heiss, Alex Reyes, Aiden Fletcher, and Thomas Larson.  The Dragon Keepers from Whitehall, Michigan took the 4x200m win running 1:32.53.  The Keepers are now ranked second in Michigan and is made up of  four underclassman: Malcolm Earvin, Nate Bolley, Lukas Palmer, and Trannon Aylor.


The last meet of the year at Grand Valley will Be Saturday February 18th. 

This meet will feature the Elite 3200m and the Elite 200m.
