Twentysomething elite runners in the U.S. are famous for bemoaning the lack of track racing opportunities in the United States. But New Zealander Nick Willis, the 2008 Olympic silver medalist at 1500m (who turned 30 in April), decided to do something about it. The result was The Running Institute Mile at Saline High School, just south of Ann Arbor, Mich., on Sunday night. (via Runner's World)

University of Michigan director of athletics Dave Brandon announced Monday (July 15) the hiring of Jerry Clayton as the men's track and field coach. A Big Ten alum and Midwest native, Clayton takes over the Wolverine program after spending the past 15 seasons at Auburn University.

Michigan went down to North Carolina and put on a heck-of-a-show. The state captured two National Championships with a sweep of the 4x1 Mile, followed by many All-American finishes and top 6 finishes in the Emerging Elite and Freshman divisions. It's all about beating the kids you race on the track, whether in the Championship, Emerging Elite, or Freshman races, and Michiganders did a great job of that over the weekend!
